“Queixinho” meaning “little chin” in Portuguese, is a three time No-Gi World Champion, winning titles in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Additionally, he is the current World Masters Champion and has beaten some of the best names in the sport. Augusto started training judo at the age of 8 in Rio de Janeiro and tried several other martial arts. But it was only at the age of 16 that he was introduced to jiu-jitsu and decided to pursue it as his main martial art. He joined the Carson Gracie team under Andre Terencio, who trained Augusto all the way up to a brown belt. After Terencio’s move to Chicago, Queixinho changed teams to Soul Fighters, in Rio de Janeiro. Queixinho eventually got his black belt from the Soul Fighters founders Rafael “Formiga” Barbosa and Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes in 2011 and went on to compete in the United States where he was invited by Caio Terra and Samir Chantre to join their team. Augusto earned his main jiu jitsu title in the adult division during the following years. He became a three-time Black Belt No- Gi world champion and in 2015 Augusto left Caio Terra Association to become the head jiu-jitsu instructor at Gracie Fighter Academy. In 2016, Augusto, Samir Chantre, and Milton Bastos started their own jiu-jitsu team called Ares Jiu-Jitsu.
